  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round baking pans and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together unsalted butter, neutral oil, whole milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  7. For frosting, beat together unsalted butter and cream cheese until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate, spreading frosting on top before adding the second layer.
