Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup whole milk (heated to 110°F)
  • ½ cup water (heated to 110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries (divided)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for topping)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • ⅔ cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine heated milk, water, melted butter, and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add this to the yeast mixture until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare blueberry sauce by cooking half of the blueberries with sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and salt over medium heat until thickened.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll risen dough into small balls; dip in melted butter and then in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  6. Layer half the dough balls in a greased baking dish; top with blueberry sauce and remaining blueberries; finish layering with remaining dough balls.
  7. Bake for 30–40 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before drizzling with cream cheese glaze made from cream cheese, butter, confectioners' sugar, and milk.
